A critique of western philosophical ethics: Multidisciplinary alternatives for framing ethical dilemmas. [REVIEW]William B. Carlin & Kelly C. Strong - 1995 - Journal of Business Ethics 14 (5):387 - 396.
American discourse in business ethics is steeped in the traditional ethical theories of Western philosophies, specifically the Greek classics, Kant, and the British Utilitarians. These theories may be largely uninterpretable or unacceptable to non-Western populations owing to different traditions, religious beliefs, or cultural histories. As economic boundaries collapse and markets become more global in scope, traditional Western ethical thought may lead to clashes among Western organizations and companies from differing cultural settings. Such clashes could lead to alienation of foreign customers, (...)

In this book, Williams outlines the unique system of logic that enabled him to retire a self-made millionaire at age 39, and shows how to apply this powerful system to the myriad social, economic, and political problems we face today.

The Political Mission of Gorgias to Athens in 427 B.C.1.B. H. Garnons Williams - 1931 - Classical Quarterly 25 (1):52-56.
The history of Athenian relations with Sicily in the fifth century is beset with difficulties; and no part of it, perhaps, is more obscure than the story of what is commonly known as the First Sicilian Expedition, which set sail from Athens in the late summer of 427 under Laches, and was reinforced under Pythodorus, Sophocles and Eurymedon in the winter of 426.

Tort Claims Analysis in the Veterans Health Administration for Quality Improvement.William B. Weeks, Tina Foster, Amy E. Wallace & Erik Stalhandske - 2001 - Journal of Law, Medicine and Ethics 29 (3-4):335-345.
Tort claims have been studied for various reasons. Several studies have found that most tort claims are not related to negligent adverse events and most negligent adverse events do not result in tort claims. Several studies have examined the disposition of tort claims to understand the likelihood of payment once a claim has been made. Still others have proposed that tort-claims trend analysis may help administrators target their quality-improvement efforts and identify problems with quality that would not otherwise be captured. In (...)

  31. A Preference Semantics for Imperatives.William B. Starr - 2020 - Semantics and Pragmatics 20.
Imperative sentences like Dance! do not seem to represent the world. Recent modal analyses challenge this idea, but its intuitive and historical appeal remain strong. This paper presents three new challenges for a non-representational analysis, showing that the obstacles facing it are even steeper than previously appreciated. I will argue that the only way for the non-representationalist to meet these three challenges is to adopt a dynamic semantics. Such a dynamic semantics is proposed here: imperatives introduce preferences between alternatives. This (...)

  34. A Uniform Theory of Conditionals.William B. Starr - 2014 - Journal of Philosophical Logic 43 (6):1019-1064.
A uniform theory of conditionals is one which compositionally captures the behavior of both indicative and subjunctive conditionals without positing ambiguities. This paper raises new problems for the closest thing to a uniform analysis in the literature (Stalnaker, Philosophia, 5, 269–286 (1975)) and develops a new theory which solves them. I also show that this new analysis provides an improved treatment of three phenomena (the import-export equivalence, reverse Sobel-sequences and disjunctive antecedents). While these results concern central issues in the study (...)

The Finality of the Higher Criticism or the Theory of Evolution and False Theology: Or, the Theory of Evolultion and False Theology.William B. Riley - 2019 - Routledge.
First published in 1988, this volume was originally published, according to the authors, thanks to a 'conscious call'. They were 'fully persuaded that the honor of Christ and the very life of His church are alike endangered by the doubting spirit now brooding over the educational institutions of America.' The book contains chapters on the prominence of scepticism in schools; the theory of evolution and false theology; and the sacred scriptures.

  50. Sex and the American Subject: Foucault's Impact on Feminist and Lesbian/Gay Scholarship.William B. Turner - 1996 - Dissertation, Vanderbilt University
The French philosopher Michel Foucault's work has had a significant impact on feminist and lesbian/gay scholarship in the United States. These explorations of gender and/or sexuality in which feminist, lesbian, and gay scholars rely on Foucault's ideas carry significant implications for the organization of knowledge in our culture beyond the issues of gender and sexuality narrowly defined. Many feminist, lesbian, and gay scholars in the United States initially read Foucault primarily as a historian. Since roughly 1985, many such scholars have (...)
